I know many of you are so religious that you are already flipping your fingers over your head shouting "I reject it" "It's not my portion" Anyway, ride with me and let's see together if it should be well with Nigeria and YOU!
While I will be making references to biblical phrases, I've decided not to quote passages by chapter and verses as this is not a sermon, and honestly, I'm not writing this so that you can change or become a believer, rather I want to raise an issue of fact with you and the Country, Nigeria. Some few things here may be general to all nations and mankind but the direction of this write-up is Nigeria, I'm I not a Nigerian?
The bible says that a causeless curse shall not arise, the meaning of that is a curse cannot come on someone except there is a cause, and that is very much understood both in traditional African culture and traditions as well as the two major "foreign" religion; Christianity and Islam. However, we attach so much of an active curse to that which is spoken directly to someone rather than the ones that are set in and by nature. Nature? Yes! Remember the law of sowing and reaping. It is generally accepted that a father/mother can sow discord in their lifetime and their wards will reap troubles or at least, their journey in life may be troublesome because of what their parents have done except such finds mercy...we'll still be discussing about mercy.
Aside that, there are statement that deals with "whoever" both in blessings and curses, such are not directed to a particular person but at anyone. A portion of the bible taking about the sacrificial gift of Christ read ".....that whosoever believes..." So, it's irrespective of gender, race, tribe or culture. One very good example was when Joshua took Jericho and placed a curse of child loss on whoever rebuilds Jericho, years later a young man from Bethel under the leadership of Ahab the king of Israel, rebuilt Jericho but lost two children according to the curse!
So if God has spoken His word that righteousness will exalt a nation, it's obvious that a nation, and whichever nation for that matter who lives in unrighteousness cannot be exalted but rather face reproach. If God word says, tell the righteous that it shall be well with it, it is very clear that it shall not be well with the wicked! If the word says, blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, stand in the way of sinners, or sit with mockers, but delight in the law of God...it does not matter the position such occupies or the resources he/she control, he/she cannot be blessed. The effect of a cursed leader/leadership over a nation or household is best imagined.
Let's talk about mercy; many people quote "God will have mercy on whom He'll have mercy....." Let me ask you, "How do you know God will have mercy on you?" What I see in that scriptural quote is God's sovereignty...wouldn't it be better to follow His commands rather than wait on a mercy you are not sure if His sovereign Will will pick you from your known and intentional, deliberate acts of wickedness?
Hold on! Have you consider that the same Moses who the word was originally spoken to was refused a request for mercy to enter the promised land? And why, from that scriptural quote do people always leave the last paragraphs "...yet does not leave the guilty unpunished.....?" Aren't we deceiving ourselves and finding license to continue in our sinful ways.
One example: At the death-bed of Jacob, he blessed his children and particularly cursed some; Reuben, Simeon and Levi....Moses later blessed them but that did not stop them losing their right of leadership to Judah, that did not stop Simeon's descendants being absorbed into another tribe and the descendant's of Levi being scattered in Israel. Why have I gone this far: no pastor or prophet or clergy can take a curse off you, out of God's permission especially the ones you entered willingly.
Having read and understood all this do you think it may be well with Nigeria and you if there is no change in our wicked acts? If we continue professing faith where our deeds are needed? If the seat of government and assemblies are a communion of deceits and lies? If our religious centres are places of abominable practices? If our homes are places of immorality and desecration of God ordained unions? Deliberate manipulations and destruction of the people and resources? If evils permeates our society and we kept silent? If we do evil, wickedness and hated one another (which only bring curses) only to turn up in prayer vigils to decree blessings? Should it be well with Nigeria and you?
We cannot continue in sin; corruption, injustices, impunity, hatred for one another and ask that grace should abound, God forbid! However, it can start to be well with Nigeria and you if we will all start to do what is right; if parents will train their wards the right morals, if artistes will be true and godly models, if clergy men and women will not only preach the truth but stand by the truth, if public office holders will stop stealing the nation's wealth, if judges and lawyers will stop declaring the guilty guiltless and incarcerating the innocent, if the army, the police and other security agents will face their lawful duties and stop harassing the people, if the president/governors will stop lying and rise up to serve as the people's servants and not lords.....if we'll love one another and speak with one voice against all corruption, injustices and impunity.
Nigeria and you are a great entity waiting to fly and assume the rightful position for the betterment of this generation but if we'll continue the same way, in our wicked and care-free attitude, then it obvious that IT MAY NOT BE WELL WITH NIGERIA AND YOU. It my humble prayer that it may be well with Nigeria and you in Jesus name Amen.
I could only pray but remember IT'S A CHOICE!!! You could make that resolution today, tomorrow may be too late.
